Boise State Dr. Uwe
Reischl Serves On Medical Mission To China

Dr.
Uwe Reischl, professor and director of the Center for Health
Policy in the College of Health Sciences at Boise State
University, will serve as a faculty adviser to the International
Mission on Medicine to China from May 14-30. Sponsored by the
National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF) in Washington, D.C., the
International Mission promotes international education
opportunities for university and college students pursuing careers
in medicine and public health. During his stay in Asia Dr. Reischl
will explore opportunities for Boise State to participate in
international collaborative research programs in the future. In
addition to China, this year the NYLF also offers programs in
South Africa, Brazil and Australia.
The International Mission on Medicine
to China will include visits to medical institutions in Beijing,
Xi'an, and Chengdu. Organizations to be visited include: the
Beijing University Health Sciences Center to gain an overview of
current curricula in medicine and public health offered at schools
of medicine in the Peoples Republic of China; the Guang An Men
Hospital and Teaching Academy for an overview of traditional
Chinese medicine currently practiced in many urban and rural
communities in China; the China Sports and Science Association in
Beijing for an overview of medical and health promotion services
provided to the Chinese Olympic teams; the Xi'an Rural Medicine
Institute for an introduction to current rural health care
delivery programs in China; the No. 4 Military Medicine University
in Xi’an for an overview of military related medical training
programs focusing on battlefield emergency medical services; and
the Chengdu Mental Health Hospital for an introduction to
traditional and modern psychiatric and psychological treatment
programs offered in China.
This will be Dr. Reischl’s second professional visit to the
People’s Republic of China. His first engagement was co-sponsored
by the American Public Health Association in cooperation with the
China Association of Science and Technology to evaluate
occupational health and safety programs in shipbuilding
enterprises located in the northeast part of the country.
