Boise State and National Bike Month

Because May is National Bike Month, Boise State University is hosting Boise State Bicycle Days from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., May 4-6 on the Quad. This event is a university-based component of Boise Bike Week. Boise State Bicycle Days is intended to promote bicycling as a part of a healthy lifestyle.

Qualified technicians will be available to inspect bicycles, look for any mechanical conditions that need attention and guide participants in learning aspects of bicycle maintenance. Representatives from local organizations that support bicycle commuting and recreation will be present to help people get started as either utilitarian or recreational cyclists. Information will also be available to answer questions about the biomechanics of bicycling, how to avoid undue physical stress and injury while cycling and how to recover when stresses and injuries occur. Nutritional information will be provided concerning fueling up before, during and after bicycling activities.

In the evenings, local cycling clubs will host group rides for cyclists of all skill levels. The evening rides are planned for 5:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, and Thursday, May 6.

Boise State Bicycle Days is sponsored by Parking and Transportation Services, the Department of Philosophy, Campus Recreation and Health, Wellness and Counseling Services. For more information, call 426-1946 or visit www.boisebikeweek.com
