Boise State University Hosts Watercolor Society Juried Exhibition

Boise State will host the 25th annual Idaho Watercolor Society juried membership exhibition through May 27 in the Student Union Gallery. An opening reception and awards presentation will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, April 30. The event is free and free parking for the night of the reception is available in the Student Union visitor parking lot immediately east of the building.

Stephen Quiller, an internationally known painter who maintains a studio and gallery in Creede, Colo. near the Rio Grande River, will be the exhibition judge. Quiller has received acclaim for his paintings as well as his art workshops, and has published five books on color and water-media processes. Quiller will give a slide lecture immediately following the reception.

The Idaho Watercolor Society was founded in 1979 to support and promote water media and to educate the public on its significance. The organization currently has nearly three hundred members statewide. Six regional centers are located in Boise, Moscow, Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Twin Falls and Coeur d’Alene. Members of the society range from beginning painters to professional watercolorists. The Society sponsors a variety of activities statewide, including exhibitions, workshops, paint-outs, get-togethers and educational programs. Membership is open to all Idaho residents.

Annually, IWS brings a nationally recognized watercolorist to Idaho to teach workshops and jury for awards. The annual juried membership exhibition also includes a traveling show, selected by the juror, that travels to each region of the state.
