Mark Levine To Appear As Part Of CSI Jazz Summit And On Idaho's Jazz Station

Idaho’s Jazz Station will present a one-hour radio special highlighting the work of jazz pianist Mark Levine at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 2, and Tuesday, May 4. The program is in conjunction with Levine’s appearance at the College of Southern Idaho. National jazz radio host and CSI professor Jeff Fox will host the program.

Levine will perform in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 7, in the CSI Fine Arts Auditorium. The first half of the concert will feature students from the CSI Chamber Jazz program. Levine will be joined during the second half of the program by CSI faculty members Brent Jensen (saxophone), Steve Cox (drums) and CSI music student Aaron Miller (bass). He will also present a master class from 10:30 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 8, in Room 121 of the CSI Fine Arts Building. Both events are free and open to the public. A $3 donation to the CSI Music Activities Fund will be accepted at the door during the Friday evening concert.

Levine is the author of The Jazz Theory Book and The Jazz Piano Book (both published by Sher Music), two texts that are considered essential reading for jazz musicians and educators. His most recent CD release, Isla, received a Grammy nomination as “Best Latin Jazz Recording” for 2003. Levine has performed and recorded with a wide variety of jazz artists including Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody, Milt Jackson and Clark Terry.

Idaho’s Jazz Station is a service of Boise State Radio and airs in partnership with the College of Southern Idaho on KEZJ-AM 1450, Twin Falls. Idaho’s Jazz Station is also heard on KBSU-AM 730, Boise and KBSK-FM 89.9 McCall.
