Sona Andrews
Selected As New Provost For Boise State University
|

Editor’s note: Dr. Andrews’ first name is pronounced “sauna”
Sona Andrews, vice provost for academic affairs at the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, has been named the new
provost at Boise State University. Andrews replaces Daryl Jones,
who will retire at the end of June after 18 years as a professor
and administrator at Boise State. Pending State Board of
Education approval, Andrews will assume her new position at
Boise State on August 1.
“Boise State University’s metropolitan mission, quality programs
and talented faculty and staff are a tremendous asset to the
students it serves, the community of Boise and the citizens of
Idaho,” Andrews said. “I am delighted for the opportunity to
contribute to its bright and exciting
future.”
Boise State President Bob Kustra said Andrews is a good choice
for the job. “Dr. Andrews brings energy, intellect and
experience at a metropolitan research university to the job of
provost. She will be a tremendous asset as we work toward our
goals of increasing our research capability, adding new graduate
programs and increasing the quality of the undergraduate
experience.”
Andrews, a geography professor, began teaching at the University
of Minnesota in the 1980s and gained most of her administrative
experience at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she
served as assistant vice chancellor, associate vice chancellor
and vice provost. She also served a fellowship with the American
Council on Education. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
serves more than 25,000 students at 11 schools and colleges and
its research standing is among the top 102 public universities
in the nation.
