Registration Open
For Boise State's Summer DanceFest 2004
|
Boise State University is now registering
students for Summer DanceFest 2004, scheduled for 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
June 14-26. DanceFest is an opportunity for dancers ages 12 and
older with intermediate/advanced to advanced technique to
experience a full day of classes and rehearsal. Dancers may also
register for just the technique classes.
The DanceFest workshop experience will focus on new choreography
from emerging professional choreographers and dancers,
culminating in a series of public performances by the
participating students. DanceFest lasts two weeks with 10 days
of technique classes and choreography rehearsals. The workshop
performances will be Friday, June 25, and Saturday, June 26.
DanceFest director Marla Hansen and guest artists Siberian-born
Tatiana Bakshaeva and ballet master Peter Pawlyshyn will teach
the ballet curriculum. Jo Miller will teach modern dance and Kim
Machado will teach jazz.
Bakshaeva performed with the Moscow Classical Ballet in Russia
from 1978-1996. During her soloist career, she has had the
opportunity to work with many great dance artists and has
performed as a classical and character soloist in such ballets
as “Creation of the World,” “Giselle,” “Swan Lake,” “Don
Quixote,” “Romeo and Juliet” and more. Bakshaeva taught for many
years in Moscow and has traveled around the world.
Pawlyshyn is a native of Canada and a graduate of the
Professional Division of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, where
he later joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. He has danced with
the Louisville Ballet and Nevada Dance Theater, where he also
served as assistant ballet master. Upon retiring from dancing,
he joined the staff of the Boston Ballet School. He has also
taught at the International Ballet, Hartford Ballet, Joffrey
Ballet, Harvard University, the Cecchetti Council of America and
the Royal Academy of Dance.
Miller graduated from Kansas State University with degrees in
engineering and theater, and then earned her master of fine arts
degree in dance from Texas Women’s University. She has danced
with several Dallas-area companies, started two companies of her
own and has taught dance in universities, community colleges,
private studios and a public high school. She currently dances
with Idaho Dance Theatre.
Machado is a former Boise State University Maneline Dancer and
recently choreographed for the group. She teaches jazz, tap,
lyrical, modern and hip hop. While living in LaGrande, Ore., she
owned her own studio, The Dance Zone, and coached Eastern Oregon
Summit Dancers for three years. In 2001 and 2002 she taught
dance camps throughout the Northwest as part of the dance/drill
staff for the United Spirit Association. Machado is a judge and
announcer for local dance team competitions and has worked with
many local soloists and dance teams, winning awards for
choreography.
All classes for DanceFest are held in the Morrison Center for
the Performing Arts on the Boise State campus. Information is
