Boise State Students Win Four Prizes at i48 Film Festival

A team of five Boise State University students and one Boise State staffer were honored with four awards in the first i48 Film Festival in Boise. Their project, “Grandview,” won prizes for Best Cinematography (Troy Shreve), Best Sound (Levi Chick) and Best Use of Genre. “Grandview” also won third prize in the Best Feature category. Other team members were Sam Heflin (director), Eric Jensen (writer), Matt Dewey (writer and set designer) and Jesse Cordtz (editor).

The first annual i48 Film Festival was held in Boise May 14-16. On Friday evening, May 14, participants were given a genre, a line of dialogue, a prop and a character. They then had 48 hours to write, shoot and edit a short film. Thirty-three teams competed in the contest ranging from four professional crews from local television stations to junior high school students. The festival was organized by local attorney Andrew Ellis and sponsored by the Idaho Film Foundation, Revival Pictures, TVTV and The Flicks.

“We were amazed by the level of participation and the quality of the films produced in such a short time,” said Idaho Film Foundation board member Peter Lutze. “Everyone seemed to have a great time and we had two enthusiastic, standing room only showings at The Flicks on Tuesday night [May 18].”
