Miller Named Interim Dean of Boise State College of Education

Margaret Miller, a long-time educator and former chair of the Department of Counselor Education at Boise State University, has been named interim dean of the university’s College of Education.

Miller assumes her new position in June following the retirement of Joyce Garrett, who served as dean of the College of Education for the past four years.

A former public school teacher and school counselor, Miller joined Boise State’s faculty in 1994. She was appointed chair of Boise state’s newly created counselor education department in 1999, and from 2001-2003 she served as chair of that department and as interim chair of the Department of Elementary Education and Specialized Studies, the largest department in the College of Education.

Miller is the recipient of several awards, including the Outstanding Service Award from the College of Education in both 1997 and 2003, and the Marrich Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award in 1992 from the College of Great Falls in Montana.

She is president-elect for the six-state Rocky Mountain region of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) and has served in other leadership positions for the professional organization.

Miller is a nationally certified counselor and school counselor and a licensed professional counselor in Idaho and Montana. She is a member of the state-appointed School Counseling Advisory Board.
