Boise State To Show 'Diary Of Anne Frank' Film On Frank's Birthday

The original 1959 film “The Diary of Anne Frank” will be shown at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, June 12, in the Special Events Center at Boise State University. Presented by Student Activities, the film is free and open to the public. Free parking is available in the Liberal Arts Building parking lot northwest of the Student Union.

The film is being shown to commemorate the birthday of Anne Frank. Born June 12, 1929, to Jewish parents, Anne died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in March 1945. From 1942 until her arrest in 1944, Anne, her parents, her older sister and four others lived in hiding in an annex of rooms above her father’s office in Amsterdam. While in hiding, Anne kept a detailed diary of her life.

In 1944, the small group was betrayed, arrested and sent to Nazi concentration camps. Anne’s diary was salvaged by a family friend, Miep Gies, and published in 1947 after her father, Otto Frank, returned as the sole survivor in his family. Today her diary has been translated into 67 languages and is widely read throughout the world.
The film won three Academy Awards for best supporting actress (Shelly Winters), best art direction and best cinematography.
