Boise State
Alum Melissa Ray Wins NSF Graduate Fellowship
|
Melissa
Ray of Orofino, who graduated from Boise State University in
2003 with a degree in mechanical engineering, has been granted a
National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship. This highly
competitive award will allow Ray to begin graduate school in the
fall at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she
will perform research in wind and other renewable energy
technologies. Meanwhile, she is touring New Zealand for six
months.
In her undergraduate years at Boise State, Ray received
recognition for her leadership and academic accomplishments. She
was honored as a 2003 Top Ten Scholar by the Boise State Alumni
Association. She was a member of the Honors College, a Brown
Honors scholar and the recipient of the Idaho Society of
Professional Engineers 2003 Co-Outstanding Mechanical
Engineering Student Award. Working with the Honors Student
Association, she helped organize the first Locks of Love Cut-Off
to provide wigs for children with medical hair loss.
Ray, the daughter of Wendy and Tom Ray, graduated from Orofino
High School in 1998.
