Radio Show Features Jazz In the Canyon's Karrin Allyson

Grammy nominee Karrin Allyson and her music will be featured in a one-hour radio special to be broadcast on Idahos Jazz Station (KBSU-AM 730), in celebration of the Sixth Annual Jazz in the Canyon celebration. College of Southern Idaho professor and national jazz radio host Jeff Fox will be the host. The Karrin Allyson Special will be broadcast at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 13, and Tuesday, June 15. (In Twin Falls, Jazz in the Canyon runs June 17-19.)

Allyson has been called one of the hottest, most spirited jazz vocalists on todays music scene. A two-time Grammy nominee, her presentations encompass all genres, from very expressive ballads to upbeat bossa novas, from pop to blues. With an instinct for knowing when to whisper and when to shout, when to scat and when to croon, Allysons voice has a natural magnetism that combines honesty of expression with a touch of impudence.

Allysons critical and commercial success began with her 1992 debut CD that earned her a place in Playboy Magazines Annual Readers Poll, alongside jazz icons Ella Fitzgerald and Shirley Horn. She received double Grammy nominations for 2001s Ballads Remembering John Coltrane, including Best Jazz Vocal Album. And Allysons last release, In Blue, recently set a record for jazz radio: It was the first album by a vocalist to be the most-played disc at jazz radio stations in 2002. Her latest CD is called Wild for You.

Jeff Fox is a veteran jazz host, including his regular duties on Idahos Jazz Station weekdays from 8 a.m. to noon and midnight to 4 a.m. Foxs work is heard nationally on public radio stations via the Jazzworks radio network.

Idahos Jazz Station is a service of Boise State Radio and airs in partnership with the College of Southern Idaho on KEZJ-AM 1450, Twin Falls. Idahos Jazz Station is also heard on KBSK-FM 89.9 McCall.
