Bob Edwards integrity, intelligence and
soothing baritone have inspired millions of listeners. As one of
National Public Radios longtime hosts, he helped create the
networks signature sound. Now, in a new book titled Edward R.
Murrow and the Birth of Broadcast Journalism (Wiley & Sons),
Edwards explores the legacy of another great pioneer in
broadcast journalism.
In a live appearance at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 16, at the
historic Boise High School auditorium in Boise, and at 8 p.m.
Saturday, July 17, at the Sun Valley Lodge Limelight Room in Sun
Valley, Edwards brings to life the major stories Murrow covered,
complete with historic audio clips the Blitz bombing raids
over Berlin, the liberation of Buchenwald, and red-baiting by
Sen. Joe McCarthy, as well as the ups and downs of Murrows
career at CBS. Edwards also reminisces on his own career, with
audio highlights from his quarter century as host of NPRs
Morning Edition, and talks about his new role as a senior
correspondent for NPR News. A Q&A and book signing will follow.
Admission is $10. A VIP reception with Murrow will be held prior
to each event; admission to that event is $50. For more
information,
visit the website. Edwards visit is sponsored by Boise
State Radio, Idahos NPR affiliate. The Sun Valley event
coincides with the official launch of KBSS, Boise State Radios
new full-power tower for NPR broadcasts.
