Boise State University Student Activities
and the Cultural Center are teaming up to present an evening of
salsa dancing and lessons from 8-11 p.m. Thursday, July 22, in
the Student Union Hatch Ballroom. The public is invited and
admission is $1 at the door.
The
evening features Boise State students and competitive salsa
dancers Mansi Loya and Aolani McGavis. The duo will compete in
the Palm Springs Salsa Competition Aug. 13-15. A preview of the
evening will be held from noon-1 p.m. in the Student Union
Fireplace Lounge.
Salsa is a form of dance similar to mambo — both have a pattern
of six steps danced over eight counts of music. In Salsa, turns
are an important feature, making it different from Mambo, which
uses mostly forward and backward moves.
