A
successful partnership between the Idaho Foodbank and the Idaho
Center for Professional Truck Driving, a division of the Selland
College at Boise State University, will soon be expanded thanks
to a generous donation from Western Trailer that has allowed
Boise State to purchase a $24,500 refrigerated trailer for
$10,000.
In
conjunction with the announcement of the donation, Western
Trailer employees and friends at the Idaho Trucking Association
spearheaded a food drive to fill as much of the trailer as
possible with donated food. The trailer and food will be
presented to Boise State and the Idaho Foodbank at 1:30 p.m.
Friday, July 23, at the Western Trailer offices, 6700 Business
Way off Gowen Road.
The new trailer will be used to transport donated food to the
Idaho Foodbank. The Foodbank and truck driving program joined
forces earlier this year to transport much-needed food to Boise.
Student drivers come away with life lessons in humility and
gratitude while perfecting their driving skills, and the
Foodbank saves thousands of dollars in rental costs and staff
time.
Students also get the practical experience they need to be
successful. “This is a great training tool for the students,”
said Ralph Dean, head of the Idaho Center for Professional Truck
Driving. “It not only trains them in customer relations but also
in docking techniques.”
