Radio Host To Conduct
Local Cooking Class
Class to Focus on the Fundamentals of Creative Cooking

Chef Joyce Doughty, host of the nationally syndicated public radio program Food for Thought, will conduct a cooking class in Boise titled “The Fundamentals of Creative Cooking.” The class is being offered at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Boise State University Culinary Arts Building on University Drive, across from the Engineering Building. Cost for the class is $40 per person. “Since we have begun offering cooking demonstrations there has been great interest in conducting a class geared toward the basics of cooking,” said Doughty. “This class will be the first of its kind. It will have appeal to the beginning cook as well as those more experienced and wishing to take their skills to the next level.” Doughty explained, “Anyone who spends time in the kitchen dreams of a day when he or she can walk to the pantry and fridge and visualize, from the ingredients on hand, the creation of a meal. The development of that meal does not stem from reliance on a recipe but the ability to think creatively and have the skills necessary to make it happen.” Doughty said this class will help realize that dream and will include a discussion of basic cooking methods and offer help on how to get out of the recipe rut. A portion of the class will focus on knife skills and the proper techniques for cutting fruits and vegetables. Participants are asked to bring a cutting board, a chef’s knife and a paring knife.
