Boise State Invites Community To Help Welcome Students To Campus

Editors: Please note that some details on the Brian Brushwood performance on Aug. 25 and the Faculty Variety Show on Sept. 2 have changed since a July 28 release.

With the start of a new academic year just days away, Boise State University is gearing up to welcome incoming students to campus with a full slate of events ranging from barbecues, pep rallies and live entertainment to service opportunities and educational workshops. The community is invited to participate in many of these events. Classes begin Monday Aug. 23. A complete schedule of events is available at broncowelcome.boisestate.edu . Highlights of the first two weeks include:

Friday, Aug. 20, 4 p.m. Bronco Stadium — Bronco Fan-Fest is billed as the “world’s largest tailgate party and Bronco scrimmage game.” Free. Enjoy activities for the whole family before catching the Bronco football team in action.

Saturday, Aug. 21, 8:30 p.m. The Quad — Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship concert. Free.

Tuesday, Aug. 24, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Student Union Patio — Noon Tunes, featuring live music by pianist Jill Cohn. Free.

Wednesday, Aug. 25, 8 p.m. Special Events Center —Brian Brushwood entertains with his unique brand of bizarre magic. Watch him eat fire and pound nails into his head. Free with student identification, $3 general at the door.

Thursday, Aug. 26, 4-6 p.m. Cultural Center — Intercultural Remix, a welcome reception. Free.

Friday, Aug. 27, 10 p.m.-1 a.m., REC; midnight-4 a.m., Student Union — “Up All Night” is an extended party with activities starting at the REC and moving to the Student Union Games Center. The night features fitness activities, casino and interactive games, a midnight movie, karaoke, a dance party, free food and fun for all. Free with Boise State ID, $5 general. Admission covers both venues and includes $1 per game/hour at the Student Union Games Center from midnight-4 a.m.

Saturday, Aug. 28, 9 a.m. Student Union Gipson Room — Service Saturday activity. Meet at the Student Union to receive a service assignment in the community. Free.

Tuesday, Aug. 31, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Student Union Patio; 4-7 p.m. REC patio — Health and Recreation Day offers healthy activities and fitness and nutrition information. Free.

Thursday, Sept. 2, 7 p.m. Special Events Center — Faculty Variety Show. Enjoy the creative talents of Boise State’s faculty and participate in a raffle to benefit the Boise State Student Emergency Relief Fund. $5 general, $3 with Boise State identification.

Friday, Sept. 3, The Quad — Pep Rally at noon, Short Stack Shindig, 6 p.m.-midnight. Show your Bronco pride at two events preceding the year’s opening football game.

Saturday, Sept. 4, 4-6 p.m. North Field —Bronco Blitz features live music, games, face painting, “mocktails” and more before the football game against the University of Idaho. Free.
