WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 8
Literature for Lunch. The Boise State English Department
presents Hunger: A Novel, written by Elise Blackwell,
professor of fiction writing in Boise State’s creative
writing MFA program. A book discussion will be held from
12:10-1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8 at the Boise Public Library,
715 S. Capitol Blvd. Blackwell plans to attend the
discussion; no reservations are required. Admission is

“China Through the Eyes of Faith.” The Division of Extended
Studies presents a seminar with Shelton Woods from

Ev Torrez reading and book signing. local Latino author Ev
Torrez will host a reading from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept.
9 in the Cultural Center, second floor of the Student Union.
Torrez will read some of his work, including “Narco,” which
was named Best Adventure Novel this summer in Chicago by the
Latino Book Awards. A reception and book signing will

Cultural Center Happy Hour. Weekly Happy Hour will be held
every Friday from 3-5 p.m. in the Cultural Center on the
second floor of the Student Union. Activities include

SEPTEMBER 13-17
Latino Photo Exhibition. The Cultural Center presents a
one-man photo exhibition of Latino life by Claudio Beagarie
from 7 a.m.-11 p.m., Monday-Friday, Sept. 13-17 in the
Student Union Fireplace Lounge. The exhibit is part of
Boise State’s Latino Heritage Month celebration. For more

TUESDAY, SEPT. 14
“The Nature of the Boise River: A Historical Walking Tour.”
Todd Shallat will host a walking tour of the Boise River
at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, beginning on the
Friendship Bridge connecting Boise State and Julia Davis
Park. The tour is part of the Renaissance Institute Lecture
Series presented by the Division of Extended Studies. The

SEPTEMBER 15-19
“The Producers.” The biggest Tony Award winner in Broadway
history comes to Boise State University Sept. 15-19 in the
Morrison Center Main Hall. “The Producers” is a musical
comedy by Mel Brooks that USA Today called “the funniest,
most fearlessly irreverent thing ever seen on stage.” Show
times are 2 p.m. Sept. 16, 18 and 19; 7 p.m. Sept. 15,16 and
19; 8 p.m. Sept. 17. Presented by Broadway in Boise.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 16
Mexican Independence Day fiesta. The Cultural Center
presents a celebration of Mexico’s Independence Day from 11
a.m.-2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16 on the Student Union
Patio. Features include information booths, crafts, snacks
and entertainment. Booth space is free; to sign up call

SEPTEMBER 16-18
“Fair Use” performance, followed by discussion. New
Heritage Theater Company will perform “Fair Use,” a play by
Sands Hall, on September 16, 17 and 18 at Borah High School
as part of Read the Same Book. The play will be followed by
a discussion led by Tara Penry, Associate Professor of
English at Boise State University. The event starts at 7
p.m.; tickets are $10 each at the Log Cabin Literary Center;
$25 general, $15 seniors at the door. The play contemplates
what is “fair use” of someone else’s art and life, focusing
on the controversy of Wallace Stegner’s use of Mary Hallock
Foote’s writing for his novel, Angle of Repose. A limited
amount of tickets are available from the Log Cabin Literary

St. Petersburg String Quartet concert. Boise Chamber Music
Series presents one of the world’s leading string quartets
at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17 at the Morrison Center
Recital Hall. The St. Petersburg Quartet has been described
as “spectacular, stunning and passionate” for its precision
and elegance. The quartet was formed in 1985 by graduates
of the Leningrad Conservatory. It was nominated for a
Grammy Award in 1995 and earned a silver metal at the Tokyo
International Competition of Chamber Ensembles. Admission is

“Morning Music” with St. Petersburg Quartet. Free Saturday
morning workshop featuring the St. Petersburg String

SEPTEMBER 18 – 19
Family Camping Trip. The Outdoor Program and Student
Programs Board are offering an overnight family campout for
Boise State students with families Saturday and Sunday,
Sept. 18-19 at Schaffer Butte. The deadline for registration
is Monday, Sept. 13, and the cost is $20.00 per family. A
pre-trip meeting will be held from 7-8 p.m. on Thursday,
Sept. 16 at the REC. The group will depart for Schaffer
Butte at 9 a.m. on Saturday, and return at 6 p.m. Sunday.
Leadership, equipment, food and transportation will be
provided. The family camping trip is a way for students
with families to meet other families with similar interests.
