KBSU
Offers Sneak Previews Of A New Ballet By Elvis Costello
|
Beginning
Sept. 15, KBSU Morning Music Host Alan Chapman will play
several sneak previews from a new Elvis Costello CD that is
getting a lot of buzz. Over the last quarter of a century,
Costello has built a solid reputation and following as a
rock musician. Now, a lesser-heard facet of his talent will
receive wide exposure with the CD release of his first
large-scale orchestral work, the ballet Il Sogno.
Italys
Aterballeto dance company originally commissioned Il Sogno
in 2000 for its adaptation of A Midsummer Nights Dream.
Following its premiere in Bologna, Costello began adapting
the score for this recording by Michael Tilson Thomas and
the London Symphony Orchestra. Deutsche Grammophon will
release the CD on Sept. 21.
Chapman will air not one but five sneak previews. Selections
from Il Sogno, will be played over a span of five weekday
mornings beginning Wednesday, Sept. 15. Chapman is heard
weekday mornings from 6-10 a.m. on KBSU.
The sneak previews will also feature excerpts from a recent
interview with the composer. He has really captured
Shakespeares characters with great imagination, Chapman
said. Whats remarkable about Costellos music is that its
sophistication is not the product of academic study, but the
product of a gifted musician using his ears.
So how does Costello the rocker describe his classical alter
ego? All the music comes from the same place, said
Costello. Its just the trigger thats different.
KBSU is the Arts and Cultural Programming radio station of
the Boise State Radio network. KBSU is heard on 90.3 FM in
Boise and 91.7 FM in McCall.
