Fiction Writer Dean Paschal To Read At Boise State

Dean Paschal, celebrated fiction author, will read from his collection of short stories at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, in the Boise State University Student Union Lookout Room. The reading is presented by the Boise State English Department’s Master of Fine Arts writing program, and is free and open to the public.

Paschal will read from By the Light of the Jukebox, a collection of his stories published by the Ontario Review Press. Joyce Carol Oates calls his stories “tender and demonic, heartrending and chilling – no more disturbing first collection of American short stories has been published in decades.” Paschal received a Pushcart Prize in 2003 for his story “Sautéing the Platygast,” and has been published in Best American Short Stories 2003. He is an emergency room physician in New Orleans, and currently has three completed, as yet unpublished, novels.

This reading is the first of 10 readings presented by the MFA writing program during the 2004-2005 academic year. Upcoming readings in the fall series will be presented by Michael Palmer, David Abel and William L. Fox, Carol Snow and Doug Unger.
