Dean
Paschal, celebrated fiction author, will read from his
collection of short stories at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24,
in the Boise State University Student Union Lookout Room.
The reading is presented by the Boise State English
Department�s Master of Fine Arts writing program, and is
free and open to the public.
Paschal will read from By the Light of the Jukebox, a
collection of his stories published by the Ontario Review
Press. Joyce Carol Oates calls his stories �tender and
demonic, heartrending and chilling � no more disturbing
first collection of American short stories has been
published in decades.� Paschal received a Pushcart Prize in
2003 for his story �Saut�ing the Platygast,� and has been
published in Best American Short Stories 2003. He is an
emergency room physician in New Orleans, and currently has
three completed, as yet unpublished, novels.
This reading is the first of 10 readings presented by the
MFA writing program during the 2004-2005 academic year.
Upcoming readings in the fall series will be presented by
Michael Palmer, David Abel and William L. Fox, Carol Snow
and Doug Unger.
