Events of special note: Boise State First Nations Conference on Sept. 24. Keynote speakers are Sandra Sunrising Osawa and Juane Quick-To-See Smith. Features Native American art exhibitions.


SUNDAY, SEPT. 19
Flutist Francesca Arnone.  The Faculty Artist Series presents Boise State visiting flute professor Francesca Arnone, principal flute with Boise Philharmonic.  Concert begins at 4 p.m in the Morrison Center Recital Hall; admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students of all ages, and Boise State faculty and staff.  Professors Jeanne Belfy on oboe and James Cook on piano to accompany.  Selections include music by CPE Bach, Ginastera, Copland and Prokofiev.  For more information, call 426-3980.

MONDAY, SEPT. 20
�Latino/Hispanic/Mexican/Chicano: What do I call myself?� The Boise State Cultural Center presents a panel discussion at 3 p.m. in the Student Union Hatch D Ballroom. The event is free and open to the public. Panel will include BSU welding instructor Juan Martinez, executive director of the Hispanic Cultural Center Donna Vasquez, Yolanda DeLeon of the Mujeres Unidas Organization, Luz Moreno of the Bureau of Reclamation, WOCA executive director Sonya Rosario and Cultural Center graduate student Stephanie Lounsbury. �Lead with Confidence.� Boise State Student Programs Board presents a lecture by Sean C. Stephenson at 7 p.m., in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom. Stephenson is a motivational speaker who has inspired audiences across the nation with his story of courage and determination. TUESDAY, SEPT. 21
Student Organization Fair.  Student Organizations is hosting a Student Organization Fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., on the Quad.  The Student Organization Fair is an opportunity for new and returning Broncos to find out about student organizations, learn about the rewards of campus involvement and enjoy free snacks and prizes.  For more information, contact Christine Lukas at 426-2872.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 22
�China Through the Eyes of Faith,� Renaissance Institute Seminar Series, Shelton Woods. The Flicks, 646 Fulton St. 12:30-2:30 p.m. Presented by the Division of Extended Studies. $40 plus membership for four-part series. Call 426-1709.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 23
American Piano Duo concert.  The American Piano Duo will perform at 7:30 p.m., in the Morrison Center Recital Hall.  The duo consists of Boise State piano professor Del Parkinson and Jeffrey Shumway, head of keyboard studies at Brigham Young University.  Selections include two suites and �Symphonic Dances� by Rachmaninoff.  Tickets are $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.  For more information, call 426-3980.
Bowling Against Bush. The College Democrats host a night of bowling and politics at 7:30 p.m., in the Student Union Bowling Alley. The first game is free. For more information, call Lisa at 283-4817.

SEPT. 24-OCT. 13
(Photo Op) �Dog Head Stew.� Liberal Arts building gallery. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday, Noon-5 p.m. Saturday. Presenting personal and political expression honoring or criticizing past and present representations of Native American culture, the �Dog Head Stew� print portfolio, comprised of work by 24 artists, celebrates Native American traditions and cultural persistence.  The title is based on a story in which Indians throwing a feast pretend to live up to the �savage� stereotype in order to rid themselves of unwanted white dinner guests. Opening reception from 7:45-9:30 p.m. on Sept. 24. Call 426-3994.

SEPT. 24-NOV. 3
(Photo Op) Tibetan Paintings-Kumar Lama exhibit. Original work by Kumar Lama will be on display at the Sacred Art of Tibet exhibition, in the Boise State University Student Union Gallery. The exhibit will be available for viewing 7 a.m.-11 p.m. daily. An opening reception will be held at 5:30 p.m., Sept. 24, followed by a lecture at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Kumar Lama is a master artist of classical Tibetan scroll painting, or Thangka, who has exhibited work in Nepal, Europe and the U.S. For more information, call 426-4636.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 24
Fiction reading, Dean Paschal. The MFA Program in Creative Writing presents a reading by Dean Paschal, author of By the Light of the Jukebox, at 7:30 p.m., in the Student Union Lookout Room. Paschal, a recipient of the 2003 Pushcart Prize, will read from his collection of short stories. Free. For more information, call 426-2669.

Public lecture by visiting artist and keynote speaker for the Boise State First Nations Conference, Juane Quick-to-See Smith at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom. An opening reception for her exhibit will follow from 7:45-9:30 p.m. in the Hemmingway Center gallery. Juane Quick-to-See Smith is a contemporary artist who explores subject matters that relate to her own heritage and the issues that make up both the history and the contemporary lives of Native Americans. SATURDAY, SEPT. 25
Troy, Midnight Movie. A late-night showing of Troy will be shown from 11 p.m.-3:30 a.m., at the Special Events Center.  The Boise State Student Programs Board will raffle off Cazba posters and gift certificates to local Greek restaurants.
