Boise State University's Kappa Sigma chapter was awarded
the Founder's
Award of Chapter Excellence at the annual Kappa Sigma
Leadership
Conference held in Denver in June. The award is one of the
most coveted
awards given out by the national fraternity. The BSU group
was
recognized for outstanding chapter achievement in student
leadership,
community service, academics and campus involvement.
"Just like the Bronco football team, we want to do our part
to put
Boise State on the map nationally," said Russell O'Leary,
the current
chapter president. "It is important for the BSU community
to see that
Kappa Sigma helps to enhance the campus' mission of academic
excellence,
civic responsibility and overall leadership. At Kappa Sigma,
we work on
these values every day."
Matthew B. Bott, who is the assistant executive director at
the
fraternity's Charlottesville, Va., headquarters and a 2000
graduate of
Boise State University, added, "a Founder's Award for
Chapter Excellence
recipient must meet a rigorous set of standards including an
average of
25 hours per person in community service and a chapter GPA
above the
all-men's average on campus, as well as an exceptional
record in chapter
management and campus leadership. The chapter at Boise State
has been
recognized as one of our fraternity's best and we know that
they are
only getting better with time."
Kelly S. Hagans, a 2001 BSU graduate and current Kappa Sigma
Alumnus
adviser, was also recognized by the national fraternity as
one of Kappa
Sigma's most outstanding alumnus advisers, representing the
commitment
and involvement of BSU's Kappa Sigma alumni.
