The Boise State University theatre arts department will
present Spanish playwright Caldern de la Barca's "Life is a
Dream" at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 5-9 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 9-10 in the
Morrison Center Stage II. Admission is $10 general; $9 for
non-Boise State students, Boise State alumni and seniors;
and free for Boise State full-time students, faculty and
staff through Select-a-Seat.
Directed by theatre arts professor Ann Hoste, "Life is a
Dream" is one of the most popular plays of the Spanish
Golden Age. Caldern's hauntingly poetic drama explores the
conflict between free will and predestination, and the
nature of power.
The play tells the story of a Polish prince, Segismund, who
is imprisoned in a tower from birth by his father, King
Basilio, because of omens at his birth predicting disaster.
When a stranger stumbles across his prison, romance, revenge
and honor combine to right his claim to life and the crown.
The cast includes Matt Melton as Segismund, Jessika Boyll as
Rosaura, Josh Belville as Clotaldo, Nicky Barger as Estrella,
Ian Mundorff as Basilio and Roger Venable as Astolfo.
