The Boise
State University debate and speech team kicked off the
2004-05 season by winning the College of Southern Idaho�s
Golden Eagle Invitational Tournament. College debate teams
from Idaho, Utah and Montana competed in the event, held
Sept. 24-25 in Twin Falls. The Talkin� Broncos won the CSI
tournament title for the fourth consecutive season and the
seventh in eight years.
Boise State rolled up 121 team points to second-place
Northwest Nazarene University�s 67 points. Utah State
University (56) finished third, Carroll College of Helena,
Mont., (50) was fourth, and Albertson College of Idaho (36)
placed fifth.
Kristin Davidson (junior, Winnipeg, Manitoba) led the Boise
State scoring with first-place finishes in three events:
Persuasive Speaking, Informative Speaking and Poetry
Interpretation. Team captain Lacey Rammell-O�Brien (senior,
Eagle) placed in four events, finishing first in Speech to
Entertain, second in Program Oral Interpretation, second in
Dramatic Interpretation, and teaming with partner Barton
Jackson (sophomore, Eagle) to finish second in Open
Parliamentary Debate. Other multiple award winners for the
Talkin� Broncos were Nancy Henke (senior, Boise), who
finished second in Persuasive Speaking, second in
Informative Speaking and third in Prose Interpretation; and
Annah Merkley (senior, Pocatello) who placed first in
Program Oral Interpretation, second in Poetry Interpretation
and fifth in Parliamentary Debate. Scott Nelson�s (senior,
American Falls) third-place finish in Persuasive Speaking
rounded out Boise State�s scoring.
The Boise State team returns to competition in three weeks
when they travel to Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma,
Wash., for the first of three Northwest Forensic Conference
tournaments.
