Fiction Writer Alvin Greenberg to Read at Boise State

Alvin Greenberg, celebrated fiction author, will read from his collection of short stories at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, in the Boise State University Student Union Farnsworth Room. The reading is presented by the Boise State English Department’s Master of Fine Arts writing program, and is free and open to the public.

Greenberg, the Boise State distinguished visiting writer for 2004, will read from How the Dead Live, a collection of his stories published by Greywolf Press. His fiction has been published in Indiana Review, Mid American Review, Nebraska Review, American Literary Review, Five Points and Salt Hill. He has also published several books of poetry. His 1994 opera, in collaboration with Eric Stokes, was hailed by one reviewer as “a major work.” In 1994, he received the Loft’s award for Distinction in Poetry and a Chelsea Poetry award. He has also received fellowships from the NEA and the Bush Foundation. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Greenberg was educated at the universities of Cincinnati and Washington and was a member of the Macalister College English Department from 1965-99.

This reading is the third of 10 readings presented by the MFA writing program during the 2004-2005 academic year. Upcoming readings in the fall series will be presented by David Abel and William L. Fox, Carol Snow and Doug Unger.
