Alvin Greenberg to Read at Boise State

Alvin
Greenberg, celebrated fiction author, will read from his
collection of short stories at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, in
the Boise State University Student Union Farnsworth Room.
The reading is presented by the Boise State English
Department’s Master of Fine Arts writing program, and is
free and open to the public.
Greenberg, the Boise State distinguished visiting writer for
2004, will read from How the Dead Live, a collection of his
stories published by Greywolf Press. His fiction has been
published in Indiana Review, Mid American Review, Nebraska
Review, American Literary Review, Five Points and Salt Hill.
He has also published several books of poetry. His 1994
opera, in collaboration with Eric Stokes, was hailed by one
reviewer as “a major work.” In 1994, he received the Loft’s
award for Distinction in Poetry and a Chelsea Poetry award.
He has also received fellowships from the NEA and the Bush
Foundation. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Greenberg was educated
at the universities of Cincinnati and Washington and was a
member of the Macalister College English Department from
1965-99.
This reading is the third of 10 readings presented by the
MFA writing program during the 2004-2005 academic year.
Upcoming readings in the fall series will be presented by
David Abel and William L. Fox, Carol Snow and Doug Unger.
