Boise State Events
Commemorate Native Heritage Month
|
The Boise State University Cultural Center presents several
events for Native Heritage Month in November. All events are
free unless otherwise noted. For more information, call
426-5950 or check the center’s Web site at
http://culturalcenter.boisestate.edu.
Nov. 2, noon, in the Cultural Center on the second floor of
the Student Union. The Brown Bag Series presents “The S
Word,” a documentary by Sonya Rosario that follows a group
of concerned Latina and Native women as they speak out about
removing the term “squaw” from Idaho landmarks.
Nov. 17, noon, on the Student Union Brava! Stage. A
performance by Red River Drum Group.
Nov. 22, 7 p.m., in the Special Events Center. Native
American activist and artist John Trudell will be present at
the screening of the documentary “Trudell” by Native
filmmaker Heather Rae. Rae spent more than a decade
chronicling Trudell’s travels, spoken word and politics in
a poetic and naturally stylized manner. The film combines
archival, concert and interview footage with abstract
imagery mirroring the coyote nature of Trudell himself. The
screening is $5 general admission and $1 with a student ID
card.
Nov. 29, 3 p.m., in the Cultural Center. A dream catcher
workshop by Native artist A.J. Johns. Johns will
demonstrate and explain the native tradition of dream
catchers and instruct participants on how to make their own.
Space is limited to 15, so RSVP to 426-5950.
