Pianist Katherin Chi To Replace Vassily Primakov At Boise State's Classical Performance Series Nov. 13

Boise State University’s Student Union Classical Performances series will present Canadian pianist Katherine Chi at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, in the Special Events Center. Chi replaces Vassily Primakov, who was originally scheduled for that date.

Ticketholders wishing a refund may call Select-a-Seat at 426-1494. This is the third performance this fall in this series that brings extraordinary traditional and contemporary musicians to campus each year. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 for students 17 and under, seniors and Boise State students, employees and alumni at Select-a-Seat outlets or by calling 426-1494 or visiting www.idahotickets.com. Free parking is available in the Liberal Arts parking lot just west of the Special Events Center.

Chi is one of the Canadian classical music scene’s fastest rising stars.  First Laureate of the 2000 Honens International Piano Competition, she is also prizewinner at the 1998 Busoni International Piano Competition. She has played in countries across Europe and North America with chamber groups and with orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra and Calgary Philharmonic, and at festivals including the Osnabrück Kammermusik Festival, Canada’s Festival of the Sound and Germany’s Ruhr Festival.

Chi gave her debut recital at age nine. A year later she was accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music where she studied with Seymour Lipkin. She continued studies with Russell Sherman and Wha-Kyung Byun at the New England Conservatory in Boston, where she received her master’s degree and graduate and artist diplomas. She later studied for two years at the International Piano Foundation in Como, Italy, and at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne.
