Acclaimed Author Reads From Works, Talk About Writing At Free Presentation On Nov. 16


Young adult and children�s book author Gary Soto will read from his works and talk about writing with a Latino voice and getting published at a presentation from 2-3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16, in the Student Union Hatch B Ballroom at Boise State University.

Soto�s presentation, sponsored by the Boise State departments of Literacy, Bilingual/ESL Education and English, is free and open to the public. For information about bringing school groups to the presentation, contact Department of Literacy chair Stan Steiner at 426-3962.

Soto is the author of Too Many Tamales, Chato�s Kitchen, Buried Onions and a number of other writings. He is the author of 10 poetry collections for adults, most notably New and Selected Poems, which was a 1995 finalist for both the National Book Award and the Los Angeles Times Award. Soto also received a Recognition of Merit from the Claremont Graduate School for Baseball in April and the PEN Center West Award for his young adult story collection Petty Crimes.
