Doug
Unger, author of Leaving the Land, will present a
reading of his fiction at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19, at
the Boise State University Hemingway Center. The reading is
presented by the Boise State English Department�s Master of
Fine Arts writing program, and is free and open to the
public.
Unger�s 1995 novel Leaving the Land received the
Society of Medland Authors Award for Fiction, was a finalist
for the Pulitzer Prize and was nominated for the Robert F.
Kennedy Award. His other works include El Yanqui, The Turkey
War and Voices from Silence. Unger is a former essayist for
the MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour, screenwriter for New Horizons,
Andes Films and Universal Studios and managing editor of The
Chicago Review. He is now a professor of English at the
University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
