Presents International Education Week

Boise State University will celebrate International
Education Week Nov. 15-19 with a variety of events for both
students and faculty that spotlight communities and cultures
across the globe.
Boise State offers a wide variety of opportunities for
students, faculty and staff to gain international
experience, cross-cultural skills and a global perspective.
The university enrolls 300 international students from 61
countries and offers ESL training to students from around
the world and sends students and faculty abroad to study and
teach. For more information, contact the Boise State
International Programs office at 426-3652. Here is a
schedule of International Education Week events at Boise
State:
- Patagonia. Noon Monday, Nov. 15, Student Union Fireside
Lounge. This presentation by Ariela Vidal will include
photos and music from South America. Learn about the summer
language program there.
- Conference on language. 10:40 a.m.-noon Thursday, Nov. 11,
and Tuesday, Nov. 16, Student Union Hatch Ballroom A. Gail
Shuck and students in English 123 will present the Seventh
Biannual Conference on Language. Presenters are all
multilingual speakers of English who will discuss their
experiences as non-native English speakers living in Boise,
as well as their observations about language learning.
- Ghana. 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, Student Union Brink Room.
Social work student Kathy McRill will present information
about her experience living and studying in Accra, Ghana,
during summer 2004.
- A Bengali dance. 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16. Student Union
Fireside Lounge. Rudmeela Nawsheen will perform traditional
dances from her native Bangladesh.
- London internship program. Noon-1p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17,
Student Union Alexander Room. Learn about the new London
Internship Program. This brand new study abroad opportunity
allows students to live and work in the heart of England.
Internships are available in all fields, working with a
range of companies.
- Japan night. 5-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, Student Union
Hatch Ballroom C. Hosted by the Boise State Japan Club, this
event includes faculty and student presentations on personal
experiences living in Japan, the chance to sample
Japanese-style pizza, and Japanese games and origami
demonstrations. Japan Night will also feature a martial arts
demonstration by two black-belt instructors starting a new
shorinji kempo study group in the Boise community.
- Hula Auana. Noon Friday, Nov. 19, Student Union Fireside
Lounge. This contemporary Hawaiian dance will be performed
by LiAnne Hunt.
- Ten Thousand Villages sale. All week, Student Union
Fireside Lounge. Fair trade items will be for sale.
