A Birthday Tribute To Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
KBSU to play Mozart throughout the day on Jan. 27

Until he was 3 years old, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was much like any other baby. Then he started picking out chords on the family clavier — and began to rewrite music history. Jan. 27 will be Mozart’s 249th birthday, and KBSU is dedicating this day to his music and his genius.

From early morning into the night, KBSU will play all Mozart. In his brief, 35-year life, Mozart composed more than 620 pieces with an estimated total performance time of 202 hours. From that enormous output, the station will bring you the essential works, from the delicacy of “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” to the great “Jupiter Symphony.” Listeners will also hear opera selections from “The Magic Flute,” “Don Giovanni” and “Cosi fan Tutte” and excerpts from sacred masterpieces such as “Requiem,” all with a generous sprinkling of his beloved sonatas, choral works, chamber pieces and concertos. To celebrate the early years, KBSU will play and talk about some of Mozart’s very early symphonies and sonatas, composed before he turned 10.

With this birthday tribute, KBSU echoes the thoughts of Franz Schubert who wrote, “O Mozart, immortal Mozart, how infinitely many inspiring suggestions of a finer, better life have you left in our souls!”

Happy Birthday, Wolfgang!

KBSU is heard on 90.3 FM in Boise and 91.7 FM in McCall. In addition, KBSW carries a simulcast of much of the classical programming on KBSU for the Twin Falls area on 91.7 FM. Boise State Radio (http://radio.boisestate.edu) and its affiliates are services of Boise State University.
