Passionate Nomad, the Life of Freya Stark,
by Jane Fletcher, is the first book of the Spring 2005
Literature For Lunch series sponsored by the Boise State
University English Department. The discussion is from 12:10
to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the Boise Public Library,
715 S. Capitol Blvd. It is free and open to the public.
Passionate Nomad tells the story of Stark,
a travel writer who considered herself a successor to
Gertrude Bell as the quintessential British traveler in the
Middle East; however, she was much less inclined than Bell
to work within the system. The book has been called a
fascinating biography of a daring, independent-minded
travel writer.
The next book in the monthly series is
Baghdad Sketches, by Freya Stark. Books in the series are
available at the Boise State Bookstore for a 25 percent
discount; parking validation with your purchase can be used
at the visitors lot behind the Student Union. Books are
also available at the Vista Book Gallery, 890 S. Vista Ave.
in the Vista Village shopping center, for a 20 percent
discount.
