Boise State University Diverse Perspectives Film Series
presents a screening of the documentary “On a Roll” at 5:30
p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 15, in the Cultural Center. The film
follows the life work of disabled activist Greg Smith, whose
nationally syndicated talk radio show “On a Roll” raised
awareness about the struggle for people with disabilities.
An open discussion will follow the film. The event is free
and parking will be available in the Liberal Arts parking
lot, west of the Student Union.
A “65-pound disabled dynamo,” Greg Smith has been a victim
of disability discrimination, racial discrimination and
spousal abuse. But instead of letting his physical
challenges limit what he can do, the “wheelchair dude with
attitude” created the radio show “On a Roll” after a 1992
first-hand experience with discrimination. On the show,
Smith offered advice, encouragement and inspiration to all
Americans, bridging the gap between the abled and disabled.
When a lack of sponsors caused him to end “On a Roll” in
2003, Smith created “The Strength Coach,” a new radio
program devoted to teaching the general public about
“lifting the weights of life challenges.” Smith’s upbeat,
tough and often humor-filled message stresses that we all
need help from each other, every day.
