Boise State University student Heather
Gribble, a senior majoring in graphic design with a
marketing minor, was named an honorable mention winner for
the All-USA College Academic Team by USA Today.
Gribble is the only student from the state of Idaho to be
honored by USA Today. This award recognizes her as
one of the top 84 students in the nation.
I was excited simply to be nominated for
this award and the honorable mention recognition is
thrilling, said Gribble. I think it is a credit to Boise
State for me to be honored for my academic accomplishments
in the same company as students from Stanford, Harvard and
Yale.
The award recognizes students who excel
not only in scholarship, but also as leaders on and off
campus. Judges also looked at each students outstanding
original academic or intellectual product or endeavor. In
addition to being a 4.0 GPA student, Gribble is director of
the Volunteer Services Board, a student-run organization
developed to promote volunteerism to students and the
university community. She also coaches junior varsity
volleyball at Bishop Kelly High School, where she attended
high school and graduated in 2000.
In addition to her work with the
Volunteer Services Board, Gribble is a Boise State Student
Ambassador, and has been active in the Boise State Student
Programs Board and Student Alumni Association. She is a
member of the Honors College, the National Society of
Collegiate Scholars and the Golden Key National Honor
Society. In summer 2002 she received a scholarship to study
abroad in Reading, England.
Application for the award was open to any
full-time student across the country of at least a sophomore
standing. USA Today recognized 20 students as members
of the first team, and 40 more as part of the second and
third teams. Twenty-four students received honorable
mention.
