Hal Holbrook portrays Americas favorite humorist in Mark Twain Tonight! at 8 p.m. Friday, May 13, in the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts at Boise State University. Tickets are $21-$39.50 and are available now at the Morrison Center box office, all Select-a-Seat outlets, by calling (208) 426-1110 or (208) 426-1494, or online at www.idahotickets.com. Hal Holbrook has been portraying Mark Twain on stage for more than 50 years and has performed more than 2,000 shows, including an off-Broadway run in 1959, a Broadway run in 1966 (that earned him a Tony), and a 1967 prime time version on CBS that earned him an Emmy nomination. Holbrook has more than 15 hours of Twain material memorized. When he goes onstage, he has an idea of what he is going to perform, but will often change his plans on a whim, so that he never performs the same show twice. He often quotes Twain passages relevant to current world events.

Holbrook also enjoys reading to audiences onstage and will often read from Twains classic novel Huckleberry Finn as well as other Twain works. As Holbrook says, I like to make people think, and thats what Mark Twain did. He forces you to think. Thats the greatest gift hes ever given me and I love sharing that gift with audiences.

Holbrook has done 50 television movies and mini-series, been nominated for 12 Emmys and won five. His film career began with The Group in 1966. Since then he has appeared in more than 30 films including Midway, All the Presidents Men, Julia, Wall Street and Men of Honor. Since 1984, he has been married to singer and actress Dixie Carter.
