“A Son’s Tragic Death in Iraq, a Father’s Journey for Peace,” lecture by Fernando Suarez del Solar. “Sunset Story,” Diverse Perspectives Film Series. Cultural Center. 5:30 p.m. Set against the backdrop of a retirement home for political progressives, “Sunset Story” goes inside the world of two women, Irja (81) and Lucille (95), whose feisty engagement with life draws them together. Presented by the Cultural Center, Student Activities, Independent Television Service, International Programs Office and Idaho Public Television. Free. Call 426-5950.

Christopher Hogwood, director and founder of The Academy of Ancient Music. Student Union Jordan Ballroom. 7 p.m. Maestro Christopher Hogwood presents “The Past is a Foreign Country, They Do Things Differently There.” Hogwood conducts a repertoire ranging from the baroque to contemporary, always with the prevailing philosophy of revealing the original sound-world of the composer. Presented by the Distinguished Lecture Series. Free. Call 426-1790.

Tuba Euphonium Concert. Morrison Center Recital Hall. 7:30 p.m. The BSU Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble, under the direction of Boise State professor Michael Fischer, and student soloists from the tuba and euphonium studios will be featured performing works from the Renaissance through the 20th century. Tickets are $5 general, $3 for

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16

“Beyond the Da Vinci Code: The Historical Mary Magdalene,” lecture. Student Union Bishop Barnwell Room. 7 p.m. Assistant professor of history and director of Gender Studies Lisa McClain presents a lecture on “who was Mary Magdalene?” In the midst of competing arguments, she will separate fact from speculation while discussing a woman portrayed as the apostle to the apostles, the worst of sinners and the most elevated of saints. BYU-Idaho Sacred Music Oratorio. Morrison Center Main Hall. 7 p.m. BYU-Idaho presents a newly commissioned sacred music work by David A. Zabriskie, “The Testament of Paul, His Witness of Christ to the World,” with the BYU-Idaho Symphony Orchestra and a more than 200-voice choir. Tickets are $1 through Select-a-Seat. Call 426-1494.

“The Politics of Help: Foreign Assistance and the Boxing Day Tsunami,” lecture by political science professor Ross Burkhart. Liberal Arts Building Room 106. 7:30 p.m. Presented as part of the lecture series “Terror From the Sea: Understanding the 2004 Ocean Tsunami.” Free. Call 426-1709.

BSU Flute Choir Concert. Morrison Center Recital Hall. 7:30 p.m. The BSU Flute Choir and Flute Quartet, chosen to perform at the National Flute Association’s annual convention, perform works by Gianella, Holst, Kennedy, Offermans and Ravel. Coffeehouse Concert Series. Paradigm. Student Union Brava! Stage. 5-7 p.m. The band Paradigm’s melodic alternative rock sound and live shows have caught the attention of the music industry and continue to attract a significant fan base. Fronted by Shannon Curtis, the band is set apart in a genre dominated by male leads. Paradigm draws listeners in with a gripping vocal style and inspiring lyrics. Presented by Student Activities. “The Full Monty.” Morrison Center Main Hall. 8 p.m. March 18; 2 and 8 p.m. March 19. “The Full Monty” is the hit Broadway musical about six good buddies whose desperate plan to get their lives back together requires them to triumph over their fears, their nerves and their clothes.
