Boise State To Adjust Parking Policies March 16-19 During NCAA Tournament in Taco Bell Arena

To accommodate anticipated parking needs during next week’s NCAA men’s basketball tournament in Taco Bell Arena, Boise State University has made a number of temporary parking policy adjustments for the four-day event.

Taco Bell Arena will be the site of four first-round games on Thursday, March 17,  and two second-round games Saturday, March 19,  with team practices and related activities Wednesday, March 16,  and Friday, March 18, necessitating the policy adjustments all four days. Tickets are sold out for all the games.

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to review the following information and make the necessary adjustments to mitigate  potential parking problems.

The following policies will be enforced by the university:

Wednesday, March 16 — Taco Bell Arena will be open to the public from noon-9 p.m. for fans to attend the eight tournament teams’ practice sessions. The parking lot between the west side of Bronco Stadium and Taco Bell Arena will be primarily held for student housing residents and tournament staff and media. Any available parking between the stadium and Taco Bell Arena and south campus lots will be sold for $3 per space to the general public.

“We do not expect event parking on Wednesday to expand beyond the south side of campus,” said Jared Everett, Boise State’s Director of Public Safety and Transportation. “However, we will be monitoring the lots and will open up the parking structure on the west end of campus for general permits if the space becomes needed.”

Thursday, March 17 — The parking lot on the west side of Bronco Stadium will be closed the entire day to allow parking for student housing residents, tournament staff and media and Taco Bell Arena lifetime members.

For basketball ticket-holders and BSU students, staff and faculty, all other major lots on campus will be used for event and permit parking on a first-come first-served basis. Vehicles without permits will be charged $5 for parking.

Everett noted that Thursday will pose the biggest challenge. “We will be encouraging faculty, staff and students to use alternative transportation and allow more time to find a parking space on campus on March 17,” he said. “Those who leave the campus for lunch will have difficulty parking on their return. We would encourage people to remain on campus for lunch to maintain their parking space and to help reduce traffic on campus.”

Additional parking for basketball ticket-holders is available in lots close to campus, many of which will be served by shuttles on Thursday.

Friday, March 18 — No games will be played and practice sessions are closed to the public. A portion of the parking lot west of Bronco Stadium will continue to be reserved for tournament staff and media.

Saturday, March 19 — The parking lot on the west side of Bronco Stadium will be closed the entire day to allow parking for tournament staff and media  and Taco Bell Arena lifetime members.  On-campus parking other than the lot on the west side of Bronco Stadium will be available for $5 for vehicles without university permits.
