Boise State Students
Offer Free Computer Repairs, Information To Community
Having problems with your PC? Information technology
students at Boise State University invite members of the community to try to
stump them with a problem on Saturday, March 19. They will fix your computer
— for free.
The student chapter of the Association of Information Technology
Professionals (AITP) is offering free repairs and information as a community
service project. All are welcome to bring their PCs anytime between 10
a.m.-2 p.m. March 19 to the Student Union Barnwell Room. Those participating
need to bring their computer only; monitors, keyboards, mice and other
networking equipment will be available to plug into.
The students can do a variety of things: diagnose problems, remove viruses,
spyware and pop-up ads, clean up the hard drive for optimization, set up
firewalls to protect Internet users, install purchased programs (provided by
PC owner), install operating systems (provided by PC owner), install
Freeware and Shareware, answer questions and provide helpful tips on how to
keep the computer running at its best.
All services are free. The group just asks those planning to attend to
pre-register at their Web site,
http://aitp.bsu.net, so they can prepare for the number and types of
questions they will receive. Donations will be accepted to help fund a trip
to the AITP National Conference in Atlanta in April.
Boise State s AITP chapter is a regular winner at national student
competitions. In past years, the group has won first place awards in Web
Site Design, Best Paper, Systems Analysis and Design.
