Hispanic College Students Pursuing Technical
Careers Invited To Conference March 31-April 2 At Boise State Students from as far away as Kansas have already signed up for the Region III conference, hosted for the first time by the Boise State SHPE chapter. The three-day event will include workshops, presentations, a banquet and other activities around the theme, �Real Leaders for the Real World.� The conference is open to Hispanic students majoring in engineering, mathematics, science and technical fields at colleges and universities in the Intermountain and Midwest regions, said BSU-SHPE president Antonina Robles. Participants can register through March 25 by contacting Robles at (208) 250-1349 or antonina19@yahoo.com, or Antonio Oblea at antoniooblea@mail.boisestate.edu. Much of the cost of the conference is being underwritten by corporate sponsors; registration is $15 for non-BSU students, including hotel, and $10 for BSU students, hotel not included. Hispanic professionals working in technical fields are invited to attend the SHPE awards banquet at 7 p.m. on April 2 at the Allen Noble Hall of Fame at BSU. Banquet tickets cost $15 and can be purchased through March 24 by contacting Robles. The annual conference provides opportunities for Hispanic students to learn leadership skills, celebrate their culture, network with other students and business leaders, and engage in team-building activities said Robles, a junior majoring in computer information systems at BSU. So far, students from Kansas, Colorado, Idaho and New Mexico have signed up for the SHPE conference, said Robles. �We still have openings, and we encourage other interested students to register and join us at the conference,� she said.
