Boise State Offers Variety Of Summer Camps In 2005

Each summer, hundreds of elementary through high school-age children hone their skills at Boise State University summer programs. Following is the schedule of activities and camps for 2005. Each camp has a different registration deadline, so please call the number listed or check the Web site indicated to confirm the deadline.
 

June 5-10
 

Boise State Summer Adventure Camp
The Summer Adventure Camp offers area youth, ages 11-14, the opportunity to leap beyond the confines of traditional camps and experience the beauty and wonder of wild Idaho during a week full of multi-sport outdoor adventure activities. Four one week sessions will occur between June 6-July1, 2005. Call 208-426-5641 for more information.

 

Idaho Engineering Science Camp. Students entering ninth or 10th grade stay in Boise State University residence halls and participate in hands-on activities, competitions and field trips to explore science and engineering. Sponsored by BSU College of Engineering and many industry and private foundation partners. $400 tuition includes room, board, other expenses. Limited to 40 students. Application deadline is May 1. June 6-24
 

Boise State summer youth sports programs. Basketball, bowling, gymnastics, lacrosse, pocket billiards, racquetball, rock climbing, swimming, table tennis, tennis, weight training and “multi-sport,” including badminton, floor hockey and pickle ball. Ages: swimming 5-14, gymnastics 6-14, billiards 10-14, all others 8-14. $45-$55 per activity. Sign up starts 7:30-11:30 a.m. April 23 in Room 215 of the Kinesiology Building and continues 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday starting April 25 in Room 209 of the Kinesiology Building. June 6-10
 

Chamber Music Camp. Conducted in the Morrison Center, this camp is a unique experience for students entering seventh grade through high school. Curriculum includes chamber ensembles, music theory, camp choir, opera theater and master classes for strings, woodwind, percussion, keyboard, brass, vocal, jazz and more. $175 tuition. Housing is $20/day or $100/week, plus meals. Half-day camps will be offered for $85/week. Deadline for application is May 20. Presented by Boise State Music Department. June 6-July 8
 

Boise State University Summer Academy. A five-week, Monday-Friday program including academic enrichment of the elementary curriculum, computer skills, field trips and swimming for a maximum of 60 children entering second through sixth grades. $595 for elementary program, $550 for middle level program. $35 discount given for the enrollment of an additional child. Boise State University Middle Level Academy. A five-week, Monday-Thursday adventure/science-based academy for 25 students entering seventh and eighth grades. The program includes mountain biking, hiking and other activities integrated into a curriculum designed to enhance general academic skills. Gene Harris Jazz Camp. Open to students in fifth grade through adult, all skill levels, this camp focuses on improvisation. Features nationally recognized jazz educators. Applications available in April. Call 426-3099 for details.

Youth football camp. Ages 7-13. 9 a.m.-noon daily on the blue turf at Bronco Stadium. Emphasis is on developing football skills at every position: kicker, punter, offensive/defensive lineman, quarterback, running back, etc. $100. June 27-July 15

Summer DanceFest 2005

Conducted in the Morrison Center, this camp consists of two weeks of workshops for dancers ages 12 and up at an intermediate to advanced technique level. Features a complete curriculum in ballet, jazz, modern and choreography taught by internationally known instructors. Includes a series of public performances at the end of the workshop featuring works by DanceFest faculty and guest choreographers. Summer DanceFest Choreography Festival performances at 7 p.m. Fri. and Sat. June 24 and 25 in Morrison Center Stage II. $130 to $375. Housing option available. Deadline for application is May 28. Idaho All Star Band Camp. Bronco Stadium. For students entering eighth-12th grades. The All Star Band will march in the Hollywood Christmas Parade (Nov. 27). Camp participants must agree to do both the camp and the parade. Need recommendation of band director to apply. Application must be postmarked by March 21. Cost $895 for camp and trip. Cavalcade USA (marching band camp), Bronco Stadium. For junior high and high school students and band directors.
