Annual Seven Arrows Pow Wow To Be Held At Boise
State

Boise State University invites the public to watch Native American dances
and listen to traditional music during the BSU Seven Arrows Pow Wow April
15-17 in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom. All events are free and open to
the public, but donations of canned food will be accepted at the door.
The Pow Wow will run from 5 p.m.-midnight, Friday, April 15 with the grand
entry at 7 p.m.; 9 a.m.-midnight, Saturday, April 16 with grand entries at
noon and 7 p.m.; 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday, April 17 with the grand entry at 1
p.m.
Additional activities include a pool and bowling tournament on Saturday in
the Student Union Games Center. A display of Native American art will be on
exhibit from April 13-27 in the Student Union Art Gallery.
The Pow Wow is presented by the Boise State Intertribal Native Council,
which includes members from many different tribes throughout the West and
Midwest. Performers from the Intermountain area will compete for $7,000 in
cash prizes. Guest dance groups will perform on Saturday and Sunday in
between competitions. There also will be a “Street Dress Owl” contest for
dancers competing in street clothes rather than traditional clothing, and
all drummers and dancers are welcome.
Host drum will be Lightning Creek; head man dancer will be Phil Allen; head
woman dancer will be Roseanne Abrahamson, a descendant of Sacajawea; master
of ceremonies will be Otis Halfmoon; and arena director will be Dallas
Gudgell.
The University Inn is offering discounts on rooms to guests who mention the
Pow Wow. Free visitor parking will be available in the Student Union visitor
lot and on Bronco Lane.
