EXPERT ON MEXICAN IMMIGRATION TO SPEAK AT BOISE STATE


 

Dr. Pierrette Hondagneu-Sotelo, a scholar and expert on immigration issues, will speak at 7 p.m. May 5 at the Hispanic Cultural Center of Idaho, 315 Stampede Drive, Nampa, and at 9:40 a.m. May 6 at the Boise State Student Union. The event is free.

 

Hondagneu-Sotelo’s research focuses on the intersections of gender and Mexican undocumented immigration and settlement.
 

Hondagneu-Sotelo is a professor of sociology at the University of Southern California, specializing in Hispanic immigration. She is on the editorial board for several major journals, including Sociological Perspectives. She was a visiting scholar at the Getty Research Institute and has received grants to develop courses on Mexican immigration to the United States.


Her most recent book, Domestica: Immigrant Workers Cleaning and Caring in the Shadows of Affluence, has won several awards.
