Photo/Media Advisory: Boise State students present and
distribute books to Nampa High Title One students
When: 7:45-10:45 a.m.; 11:23 a.m.-2:30 p.m., April 14-15
Where: Nampa High School Library Room 613. Check in at the main office upon
arrival.
Who: Jacqueline O’Connor’s Chicano Literature class.
Boise State English students will be handing out books by Chicano/a authors
to approximately 100 low-income and minority students in Nampa High School’s
Title One Reading Program on Thursday and Friday, April 14-15, as part of
professor Jacqueline O’Connor’s Chicano Literature course with a
service-learning component.
The book distribution is funded by a competitive $1,000 grant from State
Farm Companies Foundation and Youth Service America. The grant is to be used
toward youth service projects on National Youth Service Day, April 15-17.
Professor O’Connor and graduate teaching assistant Patri Thompson, as well
as eight of their students, will present the texts to be distributed and
will be available for interviews.
