What: Seven Arrows Pow Wow
When: April 15-17
Where: Boise State Student Union Jordan Ballroom
Native American dancers and musicians from the Intermountain West will be in
Boise to celebrate the annual Seven Arrows Pow Wow at Boise State University
April 15-17. The event is free and open to the public, and donations of
canned food will be accepted at the door.
The Pow Wow is one of the most visually and culturally interesting events
held at Boise State all year. Performers from around the West will compete
for $7,000 in cash prizes, and guest dancers will perform in between
official competitions. There will also be a “Street Owl Dance” competition
for people who will be competing without traditional dress.
Here is a brief schedule of events at the Jordan Ballroom to help you plan
photo opportunities:
• 5 p.m.-midnight April 15; grand entry at 7 p.m.
• 9 a.m.-midnight April 16; grand entries at noon and 7 p.m.
• 11 a.m.-5 p.m. April 17; grand entry at 1 p.m.
Host drum will be Lightning Creek; head man dancer will be Phil Allen; head
woman dancer will be Roseanne Abrahamson, a descendant of Sacajawea; master
of ceremonies will be Otis Halfmoon; and arena director will be Dallas
Gudgell.
The Pow Wow is presented by the Boise State Intertribal Native Council,
which includes members from many different tribes throughout the West and
Midwest. The Seven Arrows Pow Wow always provides ample opportunity for
wonderful photos and stories. We also would appreciate any notices you can
put in print or on the air before Friday, so that the public is aware of
this unique opportunity.
