Boise State Honors 48 High School Juniors With Scholarships as Part of Capital Scholars Program

Boise State University will honor 48 Idaho high school juniors for academic achievements and award $1,000 scholarships to members of its inaugural class of Capital Scholars on April 26.

The Capital Scholars program includes students statewide in the top 10 percent of their class, with college entrance exam scores of 27 on the ACT or 1,220 on the SAT. More than 350 students have been named as Capital Scholars, but the students must attend the program on Tuesday to receive the one-time scholarship of $1,000 for use at Boise State University.

The afternoon program in the Student Union Building includes a welcome by Boise State President Bob Kustra and Honors College Director Greg Raymond. The showcase of learning highlights presentations by Jeff Anderson, director of clinical education for respiratory care, and biology professor Greg Hampikian, who is a DNA-based forensics expert.

A campus tour features stops at the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts, where Richard Klautsch, chair of the theatre arts department, will give a presentation; Student Housing; College of Engineering, where Amy Moll, associate professor of materials science, will exhibit research labs; and the Student Recreation Center.

After a reception with the academic deans, the evening culminates with a dinner, keynote address and individual recognition of the 2005 Capital Scholars in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom.

The Boise State Capital Scholars program is sponsored by the Gannett Foundation/The Idaho Statesman, Boise State Bookstore and Boise State Student Housing.
