News Release April 21, 2005 Boise State Honors 48 High School Juniors With Scholarships as Part of Capital Scholars Program
Boise State
University will honor 48 Idaho high school juniors for academic achievements
and award $1,000 scholarships to members of its inaugural class of Capital
Scholars on April 26. The Capital
Scholars program includes students statewide in the top 10 percent of their
class, with college entrance exam scores of 27 on the ACT or 1,220 on the
SAT. More than 350 students have been named as Capital Scholars, but the
students must attend the program on Tuesday to receive the one-time
scholarship of $1,000 for use at Boise State University. The afternoon
program in the Student Union Building includes a welcome by Boise State
President Bob Kustra and Honors College Director Greg Raymond. The showcase
of learning highlights presentations by Jeff Anderson, director of clinical
education for respiratory care, and biology professor Greg Hampikian, who is
a DNA-based forensics expert. A campus tour
features stops at the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts, where Richard
Klautsch, chair of the theatre arts department, will give a presentation;
Student Housing; College of Engineering, where Amy Moll, associate professor
of materials science, will exhibit research labs; and the Student Recreation
Center. After a reception with the academic deans, the evening culminates with a dinner, keynote address and individual recognition of the 2005 Capital Scholars in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom.
