BOISE STATE SELLAND COLLEGE OF APPLIED TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS EARN 14 MEDALS IN STATE COMPETITION

 

Fourteen Selland College of Applied Technology students at Boise State University earned 14 gold, silver and bronze medals for outstanding career and technical job skills in the state Skills USA competition held recently in Boise.

 

Skills USA is a national organization that prepares America’s workers for careers. It provides quality educational experiences in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development to more than 265,000 students nationwide each year.

 

“These students represent the highest standards of career and technical skills and our dedication to total quality,” said Larry Barnhardt, Selland College dean. “The leadership, talent and pride of workmanship demonstrated is a key component of the training we offer here to ensure students find great jobs after graduation.”

 

Gold medal winners are: Jason Eldredge, collision repair; Dana Tregellas, commercial baking; Stephen Nelson, computer maintenance and customer service; Brad Severeid, culinary arts; James Ransom, precision machining; and Cyndi Parent, technical drafting.

 

Silver medal winners are: Matthew Martin, collision repair; Joey Shelby, computer maintenance and customer service; and Fred Jarvis, electronics.

 

Bronze awards went to Chris Kirk, internetworking, and Jason Janousek, precision machining.

 

Selland College faculty spend hundreds of hours each year preparing students for competition through coaching, mentoring and training. Gold medal winners will advance to the national competition to be held June 20-22 in St. Louis, Mo., where they will compete against more than 4,500 students in occupational and leadership skill areas.
