New Electronics Career Training Program
Enrolling Now In Nampa; Expected To Fill Fast Boise State
University has a new opportunity for those who love tinkering with car
stereos or taking apart and fixing things. The Selland College of Applied
Technology will begin offering an electronics program at the Canyon County
Center in Nampa this fall that can lead to an exciting career opportunity. Men and women
who complete the program are in high demand and find an average starting
wage of $12 per hour and the ability to make up to $28 per hour in the
future. Prospective students are encouraged to enroll now as seating is
limited to 20 students. In just 12 to 24 months students can earn a certificate or an associate of applied science degree. Graduates will find career opportunities in a number of business, government and organizational settings that depend on complex electronic equipment for a variety of functions, including but not limited to installing, maintaining and repairing electronic equipment.
“This is a great field for individuals who like to troubleshoot and solve problems and work on every kind of device imaginable, from computers to dock radios to global positioning devices,” said Mike Lyons, program manager for the electronics program at Boise State.
There is a growing demand for mobile electronic technicians to repair sound, communication, security, navigation and surveillance systems on cars, trains, watercraft or other mobile equipment.
In addition to
mobile technology repair, job opportunities continue to grow for field
technicians who travel to sites to provide preventive maintenance and
service, plant technicians who maintain manufacturing equipment, technicians
who work in corporate offices and those who work in government agencies
maintaining laser, sonar, air traffic and other devices. Students can enroll online at http://selland.boisestate.edu. Students are encouraged to call the student services office in Nampa at 426-4700 to schedule an appointment with a career adviser. Students can review skills and take preparatory classes in Nampa.
