News Release July 8, 2005 Idaho Dance Theatre Receives $10,000 Grant From National Endowment For The Arts
Idaho Dance Theatre, a contemporary dance company that is housed in Boise State University’s Theatre Arts Department, has been awarded a $10,000 grant by the National Endowment for the Arts.
The grant will allow the company to perform in underserved rural areas in Idaho. A tentative performance schedule includes stops during the fall in American Falls, Burley and Mackay. The tour will last for 10 days and will showcase new choreography in five communities.
The company also will do educational outreach in at least one school on each stop of the tour, and the company will tailor its performances to what the children are currently learning. Joan Dashiell, IDT’s managing director, said that this is the first time that the company will do educational outreach in rural areas.
This is the first grant that the company has received from the NEA, Dashiell said. IDT was the only dance company in southern Idaho to receive an NEA grant.
Idaho Dance Theatre is Idaho’s only professional, contemporary dance company. The company performs in Boise and in other Western cities.
