Boise State Offers
A Script To Untangle 'King Lear'
The Boise State University Division of Extended Studies will join with the
Idaho Shakespeare Festival for the seventh straight summer to present a
behind-the-scenes look at how a William Shakespeare play unfolds.
Designed for theater arts or English students and Shakespeare fans, this
year’s Untangling “King Lear” workshop explores both literature and
performance. The literary text will be studied through classroom discussion
and student research. Performance will be considered through observation and
discussion with theater professionals. The class will be taught by Boise
State professor emeritus Charles Davis.
Untangling King Lear meets Aug. 1-6 on both the Boise State campus and at
the Shakespeare Festival Amphitheater and Reserve. The first session
includes an orientation and discussions on directing King Lear, gaining an
actor’s perspective and strategies for reading the play. Additional sessions
include discussions with the King Lear designer and lighting and costume
designers in addition to watching the technical crew at work. A preview
performance of King Lear and an Elizabethan dinner are included for all who
attend.
Participants may register for one, two or three academic credits on
BroncoWeb at http://broncoweb.boisestate.edu. To register for the non-credit
session, contact Extended Studies at 426-1709. For general information, call
426-3492.
