News Release August 19, 2005 Local Health Care Organization Earns National Award For Work With Boise State Program The Idaho Health Information Management Association (IdHIMA) recently received national recognition for a program supporting the health information management program at Boise State University. The association was awarded first place in the Support for Local Accredited HIM Education Programs category by the American Health Information Management Association’s (AHIMA) Component State Association. The Core Service Achievement Award, announced at the AHIMA annual leadership conference in Chicago, recognizes excellence in Component State Association (CSA) efforts and provides information and ideas that can be used in each association’s own state. The Idaho organization was cited for demonstrating outstanding work in its creation of “IdHIMA Support for Higher Education” at both Boise State and Idaho State University. The program supports the creation of a health information management needs assessment to identify key issues and trends in the field. The information will be used to create a virtual lab to help HIM students gain more hands-on experience. “CSA’s serve as an important forum for communicating issues and keeping members informed of regional affairs that affect HIM,” said AHIMA president Mervat Abdelhak. “We are honored to grant IdHIMA a Core Service Achievement award for its work and for serving as an example to other CSAs.” IdHIMA is the local professional organization for Health Information Management professionals. AHIMA’s 50,000 members are dedicated to the effective management of personal health information needed to deliver quality health care to the public. Founded in 1928 to improve the quality of medical records, AHIMA is committed to advancing the health information management profession in an increasingly electronic and global environment through leadership in advocacy, education, certification and lifelong learning.
