Boise State Announces Fettuccine Forum Line-Up For 2005-06
Lecture Series Kicks Off Oct. 6 With a Look at Religion and Politics

Boise State University's Center for Idaho History and Politics will continue its free lecture series beginning in October with a fresh slate of speakers and topics related to the future and past of Idaho's capital city. The Fettuccine Forum is held on the first Thursday of the month in the elegant Rose Room in the historic Union Block, 718 W. Idaho Street. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the 40-minute presentation begins at 5:30 p.m. Free appetizers will be served and fettuccine will be available for $4.

The Fettuccine Forum, cosponsored by the Boise City Office of the Mayor, is a free educational forum about the history and cultural life of Boise and the Treasure Valley. Lively and informal, the monthly event invites the public to interact with politicians, artists, historians, activists, advocates and professionals who treasure life in our booming valley and strive to make it a better place. Each forum also features research and displays from local authors and artists centered on that month's theme, as well as a companion workshop.

Following is the schedule:                                

Oct. 6 �- Jill Gill, Boise State history professor: "Under God: The Politics of Church and State.� Companion workshop on religion and politics by Gill and Boise State history professor Todd Shallat.

Nov. 3 �-John Bieter, director of the Cenarrusa Center for Basque Studies and a Boise State history instructor: "Becoming Boise: Ethnicity, Identity and Community.� Companion workshop on Boise's ethnicity by Bieter and Boise State history professor Todd Shallat.

Feb. 2 �-Leslie Martin, Boise State sociology professor: "Won't You Be My Neighbor? How and Why Neighborhoods Work.� Companion workshop on neighborhoods and society by Martin.

March 2 �-"Corruption and Civic duty:  Why Good People Can Make Bad Leaders.'
Companion workshop on ethics and governance by Roark.

April 6 �-Janie Harris, co-author of Elegant Soul: The Life and Music of Gene Harris: "Jazz 2006: A Forum for Improvisation.� (No companion workshop.)

May 4 �-Charles Hummel, Hummel Architects: "Boise's Buildings: Good, Bad and Ugly.� Companion workshop on community design by Jon Barrett of Idaho Smart Growth.
